Connect festival 2024 will take place from March 15th to March 17th 2024

Connect Festival is an annual festival, arranged by Tongeneration and the composition students from Malmö Academy of Music. Its aim is to present a varied take on today’s contemporary music, with music written in the continuous development of western art music, either for traditional ensemble settings or for more obscure ones. The festival also focuses strongly on exploring and evolving the versatile opportunities provided in an electro-acoustic setting.

Every year the composers are given a “theme” to use at will as inspiration for their pieces. This year’s theme is “Simplicity

Inter Arts Center, Malmö

Elide Sulsenti is an Italian cellist based in Switzerland. Active in the field of contemporary music, she recently received the Fritz Gerber Award 2023. Over the years, she has performed numerous premières and worked with composers of various nationalities. Her upcoming concert at Inter Arts Center will be performed solo in interaktion with electronic effects and all the pieces are newly composed by the composer students of the Malmö Academy of Music.

Messiaen Quartet Copenhagen was founded in 2018 and is an important new force in Music Scandinavia. The Messiaen Quartet is constantly challenging and developing its’ musicality by commissioning many new works from leading composers, and as a result their concerts and premieres are regularly transmitted live on the radio. The quartet’s instrumentation, violin, cello, piano and clarinet, is crafted around the masterpiece “Quartour pour la fin du temps” and gives a range of unique possibilities. With its innovative programming, the ensemble challenges genre differences as well as human barriers.
