Ode to Noise

Percussion Quartet

March 29th, 2026

AbouT Ode to noise

Four newly graduated, classically trained percussionists challenge conventional chamber music, with a focus on giving the audience an experience beyond the ordinary. The four members, who each have at some point studied with the percussion virtuoso Johan Bridger, formed Ode to Noise in 2023 and have since skillfully interpreted works including Andy Akiho’s Grammy-nominated Seven Pillars.

This concert is themed around the instrumentation of Seven Pillars.

ProgrammE

Aspen – Amalia Garay Lukacs
Aspen is part of a cycle of pieces based on Bach Flowers, an alternative medicine remedy made with flower essences. Aspen is the 2nd flower of this system, and it’s a tree native to cold northern regions, known by the textural sound its leaves make when the summer breeze hits them. Within Bach flowers, Aspen is an essence that helps with fears and anxieties with no apparent explanation, as the fear of the unknown. This essence builds up self confidence and helps you give yourself inner safety.

Modern Day Morality – Freya Wolf
“Viva la libertad, carajo.”

Campfire Suite – Gabriella Bartoletti
Campfire Suite is my personal satirical ode to the cliché songs you sing at a campfire, often accompanied by a guitarist. As a former guitar player myself I have based the piece on the Travis picking technique as well as ”disguised” quotations of traditional campfire songs. How many of them can you mention?

L I M I N A L – Ian Whiteford
A liminal moment is an uncanny suspension between contrasting states, where it isn’t defined as one or the other, but both simultaneously. This piece explores liminal moments in pulse and tempo. Depending on your perspective, the music could be getting faster, slower or both at the same time.

9 o’clock – Max Ramsthaler
“9 o’clock” captures the rhythmic pulse of a morning coming to life. Church bells, the sounds of a building site and birdsong blend into a lively dance reflecting the world’s early energy. It is a musical daydream that lingers in the air, in which concrete sounds gently give way to a moment of pure reflection.

Paperwork – Natalie Schäfer
“Connoisseurs, when they see a drawing, for example, think of Dürer or Rembrandt or
Picasso; the artist, wherever he may be working, is aware of the blank sheet of paper.”
Max Frisch (1911-1991), Swiss architect and writer

Phoenix – Oskar Björkman
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes destined to return to dust, this piece is built on a playful looping motif that presents itself in different colors and contexts only to in the end return to its humble origin.

Fragments of Thought – Rasmus Otto Ringdahl Holm
Fragments of Thought is built upon an idea that affects every aspect of the piece. Echoes and distortions of this idea appear in different forms, creating both tension and alignment. The piece unfolds through these shifting fragments, where the underlying idea is never fully stated but constantly present.
